Brown Belt

Miss Munchkin and I are testing for our Brown Belts in martial arts class tonight. Some of the skills we will be testing over include:
  • escaping from a headlock while being punched in the face
  • hip throws
  • a variety of boxing and kickboxing combinations
  • preemptive strikes
  • taking down someone who puts you in a headlock
  • forms
In our school, a brown belt is only about half-way to black belt (unlike the photo above). There are 2 variations of brown then 3 of red in our future before we even can start thinking about becoming a Black Belt. It's approximately a 3 year process.

But, we're excited because this belt will put us into the "Advanced" class. Wait! That's where the big black belt guys hang out. Eeek!

Wish us luck!

I don't want to hear anymore complaining about bruises and hurt ankles and sore muscles when you get this brown belt, because obviously you are a mean, lean, fighting machine!

Good luck, and Don't Get Hurt! You'll love the advanced class, or, erm... Do you love being scared to go to class every day? Or maybe that's just me :)

Thanks everyone. We passed and came home sweaty and proud.

Jo, I do think it's exciting to get your adrenaline flowing. Like when you're fighting off a bunch of guys. Good times! :)

April, you called me "lean". I love you.

You know, I'm OK once I'm there and the adrenaline's flowing. But convincing myself to go can be quite a struggle some days. I get really intimidated, particularly if I've gotten injured recently. I'm not missing that struggle at *all* at the moment. Ah, to be fearless like Mrs Mama!

Jo, I do feel a bit nervous at times, but I know the guys I work with and trust them (well, most of them). Sure, accidents happen, but most of the guys are careful to use control. I think your class goes more "all out" than we do. I'd be scared to go to your class too! :)
